How does a word taste? Feel? Sound?
What does a song look like?
What flavours does music produce?
Olivia Elektra is an explorer of language. As both a poet and musician, it could be said that she is in fact a Trobairitz; a word used to describe female poets and musicians in Medieval Spain and France.
Born near Bonn, Germany, she was raised by her German father and Swedish mother, who as a flight attendant showered her with impressions, cuisine, and souvenirs from far-away lands, igniting a longing for perpetual adventure. She’s a traveller, whether that’s through words and song, or in the physical sense. Playing the violin from nine years old, Olivia Elektra is driven by a force of self-expression and experimentation, currently collaborating with creatives around the globe.
In 2019, she discovered that this kind of expression could be communicated through poetry. Infusing her poetry with musical tendencies, such as onomatopoeic verses and rhythmic cadences, Olivia Elektra is a playful wordsmith. Since English is not her mother tongue, there’s a kind of intriguing otherness steeped in the foreign delivery of her work. Words take on whole new meanings and forms, and this is something she has explored in her upcoming book ‘Sleep for Dessert’ which will be released on October 5th 2023.
